The Santa Fe County
Housing Authority was created on November 17, 1972 and remains one of the largest
landlords in Santa Fe. The Housing Authority currently manages 191 public housing
units and 241 Housing Choice Vouchers (previously called Section 8). The Housing
Authority also manages a Public Housing Homeownership Program, a Section 8
Homeownership Program. a Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS), and the Capital
Fund Program (CFP). The Housing Authority’s budget primarily consists of rental
income and subsidies provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Mission Statement
It is the mission of the
Santa Fe County Housing Authority to provide drug-free, safe, decent and
sanitary housing to low-income and very low-income families in an
environment that fosters self-sufficiency and community pride.
Our Goals
- Provide decent, safe and sanitary housing to low and very
low-income Santa Fe County residents
- Improve customer service
- Improve access to community resources for existing tenants and
applicants on the waiting list
- Promote economic self-sufficiency in Public Housing and the Housing
Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)
- Develop additional affordable rental housing in Santa Fe County
- Promote homeownership opportunities to qualifying families by
providing new construction and renovated public housing units for sale
at reasonable costs
- Make capital improvements to current public housing units, as well
as the common areas and streets in the public housing neighborhoods
- Sustain “High Performer” status in the Housing Choice Voucher
Program
- Obtain “High Performer” status in the Public Housing Program by
improving the Public Housing Assessment System (PHAS) score
- Provide regular training classes in the areas of budgeting and
financial management, homeownership, parenting, health, and life skills
to Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher FSS participants
- Utilize existing funds to provide additional rental units in the
community at or below market rents
- To obtain and maintain a public housing vacancy rate of 5% or less
Our Accomplishments
- Obtained “High Performer” status in the Housing Choice Voucher
Program
- Implemented a Section 8 Homeownership Program
- Provided homeownership opportunities to 49 families
- Implemented a Landlord Orientation Program to promote and educate
existing and potential landlords of the Housing Choice Voucher Program
- Implemented a Homeownership Orientation Program to promote our Section 8 Homeownership Program
- Since implementation in 1992, 26 families have successfully completed the Family Self-Sufficiency
Program. Twenty of these families moved on to homeownership as a result of participating in the program.
- Under the Capital Fund Program completed substantial renovation and
upgrades to numerous public housing units (i.e., stucco, door
replacement, installation of clotheslines, re-roofing, refrigerator and
stove replacement, etc.)

We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00am-12:00 and 1:00 - 5:00 pm,
except holidays.
